WHAT DO YOU THINK?

On August 31, 2010, President Obama will mark the end of America's combat mission in Iraq. At this key transition point, it is important to show our support to the troops and their families who have made tremendous sacrifices for our country. President Obama kicks off "Saluting Service in Iraq" with his own video message. You can join by posting your own salute as a response to this video. Learn More at WhiteHouse.gov/Salute.

0:00President Obama:Hi, this is President Barack Obama, and I want to take this

0:03opportunity to say thank you to all the men and women who have

0:07served in Iraq and who are currently serving in Iraq.

0:11Your dedication, your bravery, your courage has made America

0:15safer and has helped to stand up democracy in Iraq.

0:20And, we know that the sacrifices aren't just yours but they are

0:24your families as well.

0:27on behalf of Michelle and my daughters and our family,

0:32we just want to say how much we appreciate what you have done.

0:36And that it will not be forgotten.

0:38As we wind down combat missions in Iraq,

0:41I think it's a great time for all of us to remember

0:44what you've done.

0:46And if you are watching right now and you'd like to express

0:50a message of thanks for our troops as well,

0:53then go to whitehouse.gov and you can see how to post your

0:56own internet message and read the messages that other people

0:59are putting up.

1:00It is a great time to solute the service of the men and women in

1:04uniform that have done just extraordinary work;

1:07not just in Iraq, but all around the world to keep us safe.

1:11So, again, to the troops and their families:

1:14Thank you so much.

1:16We will not forget what you have done.

1:18And that gratitude that we owe you is going to be expressing

1:21itself in the support group we provide to our veterans

1:25once you are home.
